Further Studies To Confirm K700 Million Infrastructural Developments 01 May 2015
The estimated total cost for infrastructural development of the Mongi hydro power project in Finschhafen is K700 million, however, further studies underway will confirm the exact amount.
The pre-feasibility study report highlighted that Mongi is estimated to generate 65 megawatts gross power.
However, net power is yet to be calculated which will be determined after physical infrastructures in head brace, pour bay and turbines are built.
Appropriate technology community development institution director Dr. John Dujambi from University of Technology presented the initial report of the survey conducted last month.
Mr. Dujambi said the project is very complex that requires in-depth studies from various technical professions in geology, geo-tech, civil and electrical engineering into numerous aspects.
He said more studies will be conducted throughout this year.
Morobe provincial government allocated K130,000 for the prefeasibility study after submission from special projects unit.
Mongi hydro is estimated to impact whole of Finschhafen, parts of Sialum, Wasu and Nawaeb including Lae city.
Mongi resource owner’s association president, Sanga Ames told landowners to work together with MPG and ATCDI to deliver the project for human needs.
