Today Was Historical Conference Launch For Christian Health Services 13 Apr 2015
Today was history for the Christian Health Services (CHS) to have the Prime Ministers to officiate at the 45th Annual Conference at the Gate way Hotel in Port Moresby.
The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Peter O’Neill officially launched the four day conference saying his presence symbolizes that his government is very committed to strengthen the government and church partnership in bringing health services to the rural populations.
He commended the health workers from the Christian Health Services at the conference as the most faithful servants who work under challenging and difficult conditions to serve the rural communities.
“The government has realized the faithful work of the churches and this year 2015 has allocated K148 million to support their services, said PM O’Neill.
PM O’Neill said these funds will go direct to the health facilities without going through middle persons to avoid delays and misappropriation.
“The previous government did recognize the churches effort in service delivery but has not committed enough to support the churches,” said Mr O’Neill.
This funding will look into infrastructure, increase their workforce and increase the wages of the employees which are some of the issues facing the CHS.
In compliment to that the CEO of the Christian Health Services Mr Joseph Sika said since the establishment of the State/Church partnership in 2008 nothing of such was received and only few churches benefited.
“The Christian Health Services serve more than 40 % of total population of the country with more than 4000 employees and such a funding will boost their work to a next level,” said Mr Sika.
He added that the Christian Health Services are delivering health services successfully because they are operating under the 2007 CHS Act enacted by the National Executive Council (NEC).
