Assistant Commissioner of Police Teddy Tei is appealing to the public to change their attitude and respect the law.
ACP Tei said the kind of attitude people have leads police to behave the way they do as they are only humans that cannot tolerate public misbehaving.
He said police sometimes need to use force to change people’s behavior and respect the law.
He added that publicity about police brutality has forced the police commissioner to issue strong directives to commanders to take stronger approaches when dealing with rogue policemen.
ACP Tei added that he will make sure such policemen are dealt with by the law.
Meanwhile the Highlands region reported a quiet lead up to the Easter period except new provinces of Hela and Jiwaka.
Eight police officers have been slammed with murder charges in Jiwaka Province following the death of a man rolex replica at Banz Police cells earlier this year.
According to ACP Teddy Tei they were arrested and charged after investigators from the Police Headquarters in Port Moresby were sent to the province to investigate.
Meanwhile Police have reported a robbery of the Tari Town BSP Bank with a getaway of more than K170, 000.
Police were quick to respond resulting in 7 arrests, the leader of the robbers tried to offer Hela Provincial Police Commander Mark Yangen K10, 000 in bribery but failed.
The prisoners were sent to Mendi Police Cells to await trial.
