Tubal Warns Local On Cyanide Spillage 24 Mar 2015
Provincial Administrator of East New Britain Akuiila Tubal has warned the people living along the Warangoi River to the mouth at Ganai Village not to fish and drink the water.
Mr. Tubal said the recent heavy rain has caused spillage of more cyanide thus further increasing the concentration of cyanide in the Warangoi River.
The PA also sounded a warning to fishermen from other places not to go and fish at the Warangoi River or
Mr. Tubal hinted that samples have been taken by the Department of Environment and Conservation and the Mineral Resources Authority and sent to the National Analytical Laboratory.
So far both agencies both have not come up with a detoxification plan and a time frame to address the cyanide spillage.
