Peter Sharp Arrested For Sinking Of MV Rabaul Queen 20 Aug 2013
The owner of Rabaul Shipping Peter Sharp has been arrested and chared after midday today with 162 accounts of manslaughter and one account of taking unworthy vessel out to sea. The chargs releates to the tragic sinking of the MV Rabaul Queen off the coast of Morobe in February 2011, where lives were lost in one of the worest sea accidents in the histoy of PNG. Following that the government sanctioned a Commission of Inuiry where the recomendations were then fowarded to the police department whose investigators carried out further investigations into eyewithness accounts in the four affected provinces. After compiling all the evediences together, today police arrested and charged the owner of MV Rabaul Queen Peter Sharp and have him locked up at the Kokopo Police Station this afternoon. Its understood the manslaughter charges against Mr Sharp will come as a relief to the families of those who lost their lives at this tragic sea accident who have been putting mounting pressure on the government and police to take an effective criminal action against those responsible, espcially the vessel owner.
