MONEY MAKING OPPORUNITIES EMERGE FROM INFLUX OF VECHILES IN NCD 17 Mar 2013
The huge increase in the number of vehicles in the Nations Capital has resulted in congested roads all across the city, and in the down town area, its just horrendous especially during the week days to drive with cars parked on all sides of the streets and can at times be trying for drivers just to maneuver safely around vehicles to get to the main roads, which are than congested. But even out of this melee of hooting horns and long lines of vehicles people have found ways to make fast cash. One of our scribes noticed a sign on a card board box at the Shell Service Station at Manu Auto Port over the weekend, charging people K5.00 for a parking space, if they plan to go to the near by vegetable or betelnut markets. It's understood that people frequenting these markets don't have a choice but to pay for the space, for safety reasons and also to avoid parking on the sides of the road. This maybe one opportunity City Hall can capitalize on, by building parking lots for vehicles and charge them, which in turn can be convenient for everyone because cars do not park on streets unnecessarily; it's safe from criminals and also generates an income for the city authorities to put money into other areas of development in the city, like building more roads.
